Norrköpings rådhus, Municipal town hall in Norrköping, Sweden
Norrköping's town hall is a red brick building with a 68-meter tower topped by a granite statue of Saint Olaf, located at Tyska torget in the city center. The structure occupies a prominent position and displays distinctive architectural features throughout its facade and interior spaces.
Built between 1907 and 1910 by architect Isak Gustaf Clason, this building replaced an earlier town hall that Russian forces destroyed during the Great Northern War. The new structure served as the center of city administration after the city's reconstruction.
The tapestries hanging in the Tower Hall show how Norrköping grew from ancient rock carvings to a modern city, telling the story of its important textile industry.
The building is currently closed for renovations until late 2025, with wedding ceremonies temporarily held elsewhere in the city. Visitors interested in the architecture should plan to view the exterior and tower from the outside or check ahead for any temporary viewing opportunities.
The tower contains a carillon of 48 bells that plays melodies twice daily, creating a musical signature for the city that most people recognize. This bell system was expanded to its current size in 1984 and continues to mark the passage of time through sound.
