Åsa, Seaside campsite in Halland, Sweden
Åsa is a campsite on the Halland coast in western Sweden, offering pitches for caravans, motorhomes, and tents, most of them with electrical connections. On site there are shower rooms, toilets, a children's play area, and shared cooking and dining spaces.
The campsite opened in 1934, making it one of the earliest in Sweden. It was founded at a time when outdoor leisure was growing across Scandinavia and more people were discovering the coast as a place to spend the summer.
The area around the site is known along the Swedish west coast for its long sandy beaches, and swimming in the sea is the main draw for most visitors. Many families return year after year, making it a place where summer traditions are passed from one generation to the next.
The campsite sits directly on the Kattegattleden cycling route along the Swedish west coast, so arriving by bike is straightforward. The terrain is flat with clear paths between pitches, and the shore is easy to reach on foot from most areas of the site.
Despite being open for nearly a century, the site has kept a low-key character that many larger or newer campsites have moved away from. This makes it stand out among the growing number of heavily developed coastal campsites along the Swedish west coast.
