Villa Erskine

Villa Erskine is a residential building on the shore of Lake Mälaren featuring a protected interior courtyard and prefabricated lightweight concrete walls with galvanized steel roof sheets for insulation. The upper level contains dedicated children's spaces with separate access, while a detached structure houses the studio and office for professional work.

Ralph Erskine designed and built this combined residence and studio between 1956 and 1963, incorporating special solutions for subarctic climate challenges. The architecture shows innovations in material selection and construction methods developed specifically for its waterside location and harsh weather.

The building reflects Swedish residential traditions through its layout, which balances shared spaces with private rooms across multiple floors for different family activities.
