Mjellby Art Museum, Art museum in Halmstad Municipality, Sweden.
Mjellby Art Museum displays modern art collections inside a converted elementary school building situated outside Halmstad. The structure retains the straightforward architecture of the original schoolhouse while its interior spaces now function as exhibition areas for contemporary and classical works.
The museum was founded in 1980 by Viveka Bosson at the site of a former school and transferred to Halmstad Municipality in 1997. This handover allowed for permanent funding and an expansion of exhibition activities over subsequent years.
The permanent collection displays works by the Halmstadgruppen, artists who brought European cubist and surrealist ideas into Swedish art during the 1920s. You can see how these creators expressed their era and surroundings through inventive painting techniques.
The museum opens daily and provides audio guides as well as exhibition texts in multiple languages. Wheelchair access is available, making the spaces easy to navigate for all visitors.
The museum organizes four to five rotating exhibitions annually that address contemporary social topics while complementing the permanent collection. These shows allow the venue to bridge historical artworks and current conversations.
