Aaltohuset, Office building in Avesta, Sweden.
Aaltohuset exhibits a facade decorated with azure blue ceramic tiles from Arabia Finland, providing a notable contrast against the Swedish landscape.
The construction of this commercial and residential complex took place between 1957 and 1961, commissioned by local businessman Ernst Sundh.
Finnish architect Alvar Aalto designed this structure, making it one of only two buildings he created in Sweden.
The building contains multiple retail spaces, office areas, and residential units, serving the local community at the intersection of Kungsgatan and Bergslagsvägen.
Stefan Sundh, a relative of the original commissioner, purchased the building in 2003 and plans to transfer it to a foundation for preservation.
