Gerlesborg School of Fine Art, Art education center in Hamburgsund, Sweden
Gerlesborg School of Fine Art is an art school located on the Swedish west coast with a branch in Stockholm. It offers a two-year foundation program and shorter courses covering watercolor, oil painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography.
Founded in 1944 by painter Arne Isacsson, the school started with landscape painting courses. By 1969 it had grown into Scandinavia's largest tuition-free art college.
The school maintains exhibition spaces where visitors can see work by Swedish and international artists presented regularly. The gallery hosts discussions and events that connect the local community with contemporary art practice.
The two locations offer different programs, and those interested in courses can enroll directly. Visitors can also drop in to see the gallery exhibitions and attend public events without any prior registration.
The school began by teaching a few landscape painting techniques but expanded quickly to serve artists across the entire region. What sets it apart is how it remained accessible and community-focused while building such a substantial reputation.
