Östanå Castle, Castle in Österåker Municipality, Sweden
The grand stone castle stands on a hill overlooking the Stockholm archipelago shipping channel, with ferries crossing to Ljusterö island nearby.
Built between 1791 and 1794 according to architect Louis Jean Desprez's design, replacing a wooden structure destroyed during the Russian Pillage of 1719.
The castle represents late 18th-century Swedish noble architecture and served as residence for Prime Minister Erik Gustaf Boström in the late 1800s.
Located 50 kilometers northeast of Stockholm, the castle requires advance arrangements for visits as it remains under private ownership.
The castle grounds contain an apple orchard and offer direct views of maritime traffic navigating through the Stockholm waterways.
