Bollnäs Town, Administrative center in Gävleborg County, Sweden.
Bollnäs is an administrative center in Gävleborg County located in east central Sweden. The surrounding municipality spans 899 square kilometers (347 square miles) with the Ljusnan River running through its northern and southeastern parts.
The settlement was first recorded as Baldenaes in 1312 and became a municipality in 1942. A reorganization in 1970 changed the regional administrative structure.
The area contains traditional Swedish farms with distinctive regional architecture that reflect the way people have lived and worked the land for generations. These rural properties remain part of the local identity and show how communities organized their lives around farming and timber.
A railway station on the Northern Main Line connects the town to major Swedish cities with regular daytime train services. The central location makes it easy to explore the surrounding area and visit nearby regions.
About 15 kilometers northeast is Växbo lin, an active linen weaving and spinning facility that is the only one of its kind still operating in all of Scandinavia. The workshop demonstrates traditional textile making and keeps alive a historic craft that has nearly vanished elsewhere.
