Holy Cave

Holy Cave is a limestone system near San Servolo with a spacious main chamber filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Several smaller underground passages connect the spaces and create a natural network of stone formations.

A saint named Servulus sought refuge here in the 3rd century and lived as a hermit within the cave. His presence transformed the place into a religious shrine that people have honored ever since.

Local people gather here throughout the year to hold religious ceremonies in the main chamber where an altar space still stands today. These gatherings show how the cave remains spiritually important to the community.
