Baranie Rohy, Mountain summit in Poprad District, Slovakia.
Baranie Rohy is a mountain summit in the High Tatras that rises to approximately 2526 meters and features steep rock faces connected by narrow ridges to nearby peaks. The formation displays distinctive alpine structures with exposed stone and tight mountain passages.
The first documented ascent occurred in 1867 when climbers Józef Stolarczyk and Ambrozy Trausyl reached the top during favorable summer conditions. This early climb marked an important moment in the exploration of the High Tatras.
The name refers to 'Sheep Horns' in reference to the pastoral traditions that shaped these highlands for centuries. Herders once brought their flocks to graze in the alpine meadows surrounding these peaks.
Reaching the summit requires a certified mountain guide, as there are no marked trails leading directly to the peak. Visitors should be prepared for challenging alpine conditions and unmarked terrain.
The formation includes Barania Galeria, a distinctive scree terrace with views across neighboring valleys and alpine features. This terrain landmark often serves as a visual reference point for experienced hikers while also revealing the geological processes that shaped this mountain region.
