Spišský štít, Mountain summit in Vysoké Tatry range, Slovakia
Spišský štít is a peak in the High Tatras with two distinct summits. The northwestern main summit rises to 2,483 meters (8,147 feet), while the southeastern peak stands considerably lower.
The mountain was first documented to have been climbed on July 21, 1896, by Jozef Déry and Ján Hunsdorfer. This early ascent marked the beginning of climbing history on this peak.
The peak received its German names Déryspitze and Dérycsúcs in 1898 from František Dénes to honor the first climber Jozef Déry.
Climbing this peak requires a professional mountain guide, and the easiest route is graded as difficulty level I. Attempt this summit only with professional guidance and existing mountaineering experience.
Behind the southern peak lies the distinctive Spišská ihla formation, a striking rock feature in the landscape. The Baranie features separate this area from surrounding terrain and give the region a particular geological character.
