Jilib National Park, National park in Jubaland, Somalia.
Jilib National Park is a protected reserve in the Middle Juba region of southern Somalia near the city of Jilib. The park spans a large area of land with diverse habitats and landscape types found in this part of the country.
The park was established in the 1970s as the country's first national protection zone. Following the outbreak of civil war in 1991, management activities and conservation efforts declined significantly.
Members of the Sheekhaal diaspora initiated international conferences to restore wildlife tourism and conservation efforts within the park's boundaries.
The site is managed by a department established through presidential decree to enforce protection regulations. Visitors should inquire about current conditions and access before arrival, as infrastructure may be limited after years of challenges.
Before the conflict, the area was home to large animals such as elephants, buffalo, rhinoceroses, and big cats. The presence of these species shows the place's importance as a habitat for wildlife that is now rare across the region.
