Chaiya

Chaiya is an administrative district in Surat Thani province that contains nine sub-districts with varying terrain. The area stretches between the Gulf of Thailand and nearby mountains, displaying both coastal flatlands and hilly regions.

The area was an important port of the Srivijaya Kingdom from the 7th to 13th century and served as a center for trade and exchange. Archaeological discoveries show how significant this location was in a vast trading network.

The National Museum here displays objects from the Srivijaya period, including ceramics and pottery from distant trading partners. You can see how this place was woven into ancient commerce and exchange across Asia.

The southern railway line and Asian Highway AH2 provide good connections to other regions. Exploring the district by car or motorcycle works well if you want to visit different parts.
