Suankularb Wittayalai School, Administrative subdivision in Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok, Thailand.
Suankularb Wittayalai School is an educational institution in the Phra Nakhon District of Bangkok, located within the Wang Burapha Phirom neighborhood. The campus sits in a densely built part of the city close to the Chao Phraya River.
The school was founded in 1882 under King Rama V as one of the first modern educational institutions in Thailand. It played an important role in introducing Western teaching methods and training future civil servants for the kingdom.
The district transformed into a central meeting point for Bangkok youth during the 1950s and 1960s, with theaters showing international films and markets selling Western goods.
The grounds are not open to the public during school hours, but the exterior area can be viewed from the nearby riverfront. The area is best reached by river express boat or by public buses that run along the main roads.
The name of the school means rose garden and refers to its original location in a royal garden that was formerly used for growing flowers. Many former students went on to become leading figures in politics, arts, and business across the country.
