Don Mueang International Airport, International airport in Anusawari Subdistrict, Thailand
Don Mueang International Airport is an airport in Anusawari, Thailand, operating with two separate buildings for domestic and international flights. Terminal 1 handles routes beyond the country, while Terminal 2 serves connections within Thailand, allowing passengers to move between zones as needed.
The site served as a Royal Air Force base starting in 1914 and welcomed its first scheduled commercial flight from Amsterdam in 1924. After decades as the country's sole international gateway, it was later complemented by a newer facility but continued to operate throughout.
The name comes from Don Mueang, a northern Bangkok district that now surrounds the entire airport complex. Travelers often see Royal Air Force personnel in uniform, as they still occupy part of the site and share the runways with commercial airlines.
The airport sits along Phaholyothin Road in the northern part of the capital and is reachable by bus lines and highways from downtown. Travelers switching between terminals should plan extra time, as the buildings are not directly side by side.
A glass-walled elevated walkway links the two main buildings and offers open views of the tarmac while crossing. Passengers can watch planes taxi directly below as they move between domestic and international zones.
