Istanbul Province, Administrative province in Marmara Region, Turkey
Istanbul Province is an administrative unit in Turkey that covers both sides of the Bosporus and the surrounding areas of the metropolis. It is divided into thirty-nine districts that include urban and rural areas over a territory of more than five thousand square kilometers.
The region was reorganized as an administrative province after the founding of the Republic of Turkey in 1923. It took over functions that had previously been fulfilled by the Ottoman system.
The province houses numerous museums, including the Topkapi Palace Museum, which displays Ottoman Empire artifacts and royal collections from multiple centuries.
Metro, tram, bus, and ferry services connect the different districts and make it easier to move around the province. Transport runs frequently and allows access to most parts of the region.
The Princes' Islands in the Sea of Marmara are part of the province and can only be reached by ferry. No motorized vehicles drive there, so horse-drawn carriages and bicycles are the usual means of transport.
