Antong Hot Spring, Natural thermal springs in Yuli Township, Taiwan
Antong Hot Spring is a natural thermal source in Yuli Township where heated water emerges from multiple points along a riverbank. The water reaches approximately 66 degrees Celsius and contains minerals that form various bathing pools across a 200 to 300-meter stretch.
A Japanese lumberman discovered these springs in 1904 while exploring the region's camphor forests, which led to the establishment of public bathing facilities. The discovery gradually brought attention to the site and established it as a destination in the area.
Local visitors and travelers come to bathe in these warm waters for muscle relief and relaxation, while the mineral-rich composition gives the pools a distinctive milky appearance. People gather here regularly to soak and enjoy the social aspect of communal bathing.
The most direct route involves taking the Taiwan Railway to Yuli Station, then using a bus or taxi to reach the springs. Access is straightforward, with regular transportation links available and the site itself being open and easy to navigate.
The water is hot enough to cook eggs directly in the spring, something visitors often test firsthand at the source. Steam rises continuously from multiple points along the water, creating a distinctive and memorable appearance.
