Lu-Ming Hall, Modernist university hall at National Taiwan University campus, Taiwan
Lu-Ming Hall is a modernist university building on the National Taiwan University campus with square cone decorations on its exterior walls. The facade combines geometric forms with traditional Chinese elements such as ornate railings and red columns.
The building was completed in 1968 with American funding and initially served as a cultural center for overseas Chinese students. It was connected to the Overseas Community Affairs Council which supported these students.
The name comes from an ancient Chinese banquet tradition that represents hospitality and celebration. Inside, you can see traditional Chinese craft elements that reflect the work of artisans across different generations.
The building is open daily to visitors and offers various spaces to explore. The first floor contains a student cafeteria, while upper levels feature theater spaces and gathering areas.
The interior features craft decorations created by a master artisan and his father, showcasing multiple generations of Chinese craftsmanship techniques. Many visitors walk past these details without noticing the artistry woven throughout the space.
