Hsinchu Zoo, Zoo in East District, Hsinchu, Taiwan
Hsinchu Zoo is a zoological garden in the eastern district of Hsinchu, Taiwan, covering just over five hectares. The site is divided into six areas where visitors can encounter around 280 animals from more than 70 species.
The site opened in 1936 and underwent a major renovation during the second half of the 2010s. The work drew on old photographs to restore the original appearance of the buildings.
The park takes its name from the city of Hsinchu and serves as a popular family destination, especially on weekends. Many locals visit regularly to introduce their children to the animals and walk together through the well-maintained paths.
The entrance lies within walking distance of Hsinchu Station and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission costs 20 Taiwan dollars, making the visit particularly affordable.
During renovation work, specialists discovered the original green paint on statues beneath several layers of color. This finding helped restore the historical appearance of the site more accurately.
