Aviation Technical Museum, Aviation museum in Luhansk, Ukraine.
The Aviation Technical Museum is an outdoor and indoor museum in Luhansk, Ukraine, displaying Soviet-era aircraft and helicopters. The collection includes fighter jets, transport planes, and helicopters arranged across covered and open-air sections of the site.
The museum was founded in 1996, when aircraft sent to the Luhansk repair plant for maintenance and no longer returned to service were kept as exhibits. This initial group of retired machines grew over time into a permanent collection tied to the region's history.
The museum displays aircraft that once flew in Soviet military and transport service, giving a concrete sense of how aviation shaped daily life in the region. Many of the machines on display were serviced in Luhansk itself, making the connection between the city and the aviation industry tangible.
Part of the collection is outdoors, so visiting on a dry day lets you see everything without difficulty. Wear comfortable shoes, as the outdoor sections may have uneven ground between the aircraft.
Several of the aircraft on display, including the MiG-17 and MiG-21, arrived at the Luhansk plant in pieces for repair rather than as complete machines. This means some of the exhibits were reassembled locally, giving them a direct physical connection to the city itself.
