Monastery of the Holy Cross

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross Monastery rises on Monastery Hill with seven cylindrical domes that stand out against the skyline of Poltava. The complex includes several buildings arranged around the main cathedral, creating a unified architectural composition typical of Ukrainian Baroque design.

Founded in 1650 to honor Cossack victories and strengthen their faith, the monastery later served as King Charles XII of Sweden's headquarters during the 1709 conflict. This dual role connected it to both religious devotion and important military history.
