Dormition Cathedral, Poltava, Orthodox cathedral in Poltava, Ukraine
The Dormition Cathedral features a Byzantine basilica design with decorative pediments on its facades and stands 32 meters long and 17 meters wide.
The cathedral was constructed between 1751 and 1770 on the site of a former wooden Church of the Assumption that existed until 1695.
The cathedral holds the position of mother church for Poltava and contains a four-storey carved iconostasis created in French architectural style.
Located at 1 Sobornaya Square, the cathedral maintains regular religious services while also functioning as an exhibition center for visitors.
The cathedral's bell tower, reaching 144 meters in height and consecrated in 1787, underwent transformation into a city museum between 1999 and 2005.
