Poltava Zemstvo building

The Poltava Zemstvo building is an administrative structure and museum in central Poltava that displays distinctive Ukrainian architectural features such as steep roofs, brick walls, and elaborate decoration. The building occupies a prominent location at Constitution Square and now functions as an exhibition space for items spanning various periods of regional history.

The building was completed in 1908 and originally served as a local government office. It was converted into a museum after 1920 and has since remained a repository for regional collections.

The building reflects the role of local self-governance in the 19th century and shows how the Zemstvo institution shaped the region. Visitors can see how this place embodied the administrative life and decision-making of its era.

The building is located centrally at Constitution Square and is easy to reach on foot. The interior contains several exhibition areas, so visitors should allow adequate time to view everything.

More than 24,000 specially made glazed tiles were manufactured exclusively for decorating the building's exterior. These ceramic works were executed under the supervision of ceramicist Peter Vaulin and represent a remarkable craft detail of the facade.
