Literary and Memorial Museum Kotlyarevsky

The Literary and Memorial Museum Kotlyarevsky occupies five rooms within a reconstructed traditional house in Poltava, displaying the writer's manuscripts, personal belongings, and period furniture. The layout and contents show how a household from that era was organized and how the author lived.

The building was reconstructed in 1969 using watercolor sketches made by Taras Shevchenko as a guide, and it stands on the original site of Kotlyarevsky's grandfather's house. This reconstruction method and family connection reveal how the space connects to multiple figures in Ukrainian literature.

The museum honors Ivan Kotlyarevsky, whose adaptation of Virgil's Aeneid became the first major literary work written in modern Ukrainian. His achievement opened a new chapter for Ukrainian literature and national identity.
