Botanical garden in Kryvyi Rih

The botanical garden in Kryvyi Rih is a nature reserve spanning 52.4 hectares (129 acres) with walking paths that wind through collections of native and exotic plant species. It houses approximately 1,800 plant varieties, including 180 rare and endangered species, organized across different sections for visitors to explore.

The garden was established in 1983 in response to environmental concerns and began as an extension of the Donetsk Botanical Garden under Professor Yevhen Kondratyuk's leadership. A dendrology section received national heritage status in 2004, highlighting its importance for preserving regional plant diversity.

The garden takes its name from the Kryvyi Rih city where it stands, and today it serves as a refuge where locals come to escape the industrial landscape and connect with nature. People gather here to walk among trees and flowers, finding moments of peace in this green space that contrasts with the surrounding urban development.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months when plants are actively growing and flowering, making the various collections most vibrant. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since exploring the different garden areas requires considerable walking.

The dendrology section is a specialized woodland and tree area focused on cataloging and studying various tree species and their characteristics. This section often goes unnoticed by casual visitors but offers a unique window into the region's forest research work.
