Ginzburg Skyscraper, Hotel in Ukraine
The Ginzburg Skyscraper was a twelve-story building with a tower and spire that rose above Instytutska Street. Its H-shaped Art Nouveau design featured many windows across its facade and stood as a defining feature of Kyiv's skyline at the time.
Built in 1912 by merchant Lev Ginzburg, the skyscraper was the tallest building in the region at that time. The structure was destroyed in 1941 during World War II and finally demolished in the 1950s to make way for reconstruction.
The Ginzburg Skyscraper was a symbol of Kyiv's architectural progress in the early twentieth century. Its Art Nouveau design shaped the street and reflected how the city was modernizing during that period.
The site of the original skyscraper is located at Instytutska Street number 4 and is easily accessible by metro from Khreshchatyk station. The area is in an active part of the city with good walking access to nearby shops, cafes, and the city center.
The building featured advanced technology such as American elevators, which were unusual for the time. Its remarkable height and visibility from different parts of the city made it a symbol of progress and modern development in Kyiv.
