Museum of Ethnography and Crafts in Lviv, Ethnographic museum at Svobody Avenue, Lviv, Ukraine
The Museum of Ethnography and Crafts occupies a former Galician Savings Bank building on Svobody Avenue. The structure displays sculptured figures representing Industry and Agriculture on its facade and houses around 90,000 objects spanning different regions and time periods.
The museum was created in 1951 by merging the Industrial City Museum founded in 1874 with the Antiquities Museum of the Scientific Society. This union brought together two distinct collecting traditions under one roof.
The collection displays Ukrainian folk clothing and handicraft techniques passed down through generations. You can see how people once worked and celebrated through colorful textiles, pottery, and carved objects from everyday life.
The building is open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday with separate admission rates for adults and students. Photography is permitted under certain conditions but may require an additional fee.
The museum preserves Ukraine's largest collection of timepieces featuring around 450 clocks from different countries and historical periods. The collection spans from simple mechanisms to elaborately crafted pieces showing technical development and artistic craftsmanship.
