Olyshivka, Settlement in Chernihiv Raion, Ukraine
Olyshivka is an urban-type settlement in Chernihiv Raion in northern Ukraine, situated around 20 kilometers south of Chernihiv city. The settlement sits at an elevation of about 118 meters above sea level and maintains a layout with mixed residential and community spaces typical of such settlements.
The settlement served as the administrative center of its own raion until November 1960, when territorial reforms incorporated it into the larger Chernihiv district. This administrative change marked a turning point in the local governance structure of the region.
The settlement goes by different names across languages, reflecting the cultural connections of the region. These linguistic variations show how the place has been called by its neighbors speaking Belarusian, Czech, and Russian.
The settlement connects to major cities Chernihiv and Kyiv via Highway M01, making access straightforward by car. This main route also links to the nearby municipality of Kulykivka, so exploring the wider area is convenient.
In January 2024, the settlement underwent a notable shift in its administrative status. It was reclassified from an urban-type settlement to a rural settlement, marking an unexpected change in how it is officially categorized.
