Дуб Шевченка в Полтаві, Natural monument oak tree in Poltava, Ukraine.
The sturdy oak grows on the grounds of the Agricultural Economics College on Menzhinskogo Street in the Pavlenki district of Poltava. It receives regular care from dendrologists who monitor its health and condition.
The Poltava Community planted this tree on May 18, 1861, during the reburial ceremony of poet Taras Shevchenko. This act created the first living memorial to the writer through the efforts of local activists.
The wooden plaque features Shevchenko's portrait and his words: "Your thoughts, your songs will not die, will not perish." This inscription connects the tree directly to the memory of the celebrated Ukrainian poet.
The tree is accessible throughout the year within the college grounds, and visitors can reach it on foot without charge. The location offers a quiet spot for reflection and learning about the site's meaning.
The activists who planted this tree were later persecuted and exiled from the city for their work. Their courageous action made this oak a symbol of quiet resistance against political oppression.
