The sturdy oak tree stands within the park of the Agricultural Economics College on Menzhinskogo Street in the Pavlenki district of Poltava.
Members of the Poltava Community organization planted this oak tree on May 18, 1861, during the reburial ceremony of Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko.
The oak tree displays a wooden plaque with Shevchenko's portrait and his words 'Your thoughts, your songs will not die, will not perish' inscribed beneath.
The tree remains accessible throughout the year within the college grounds, where dendrologists regularly monitor its condition and ensure its preservation.
This specific oak represents the first living memorial to Taras Shevchenko, planted by local activists who later faced persecution and exile from the city.
