Striltsevsky Steppe Nature Reserve

This protected area covers 1,087 hectares of steppe habitat with grass, fescue, and feather grass across relatively flat terrain with hills reaching 50 meters.

The Striltsevsky Steppe Nature Reserve, established in 1968, continues the preservation efforts that began in 1931 for scientific research of steppe processes.

Scientists have documented 673 species of vascular plants and 47 species of mammals within the reserve, making it a center for ecological studies.

The reserve maintains strict access controls, prohibiting mass recreation, construction, hunting, and fishing to protect the natural environment and research activities.

The European Marmot population thrives in this reserve, which experiences temperature variations from -9°C in January to 21°C in July.
