Markivka is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine located in Luhansk Oblast. The community serves as a local center for surrounding villages in a gently rolling landscape.
The settlement became an administrative center in 1920 and held this role for several decades. Its formal administrative status changed during territorial reorganization in 2020.
The 2001 census revealed that 93.3 percent of residents spoke Ukrainian as their primary language, while 6.2 percent primarily communicated in Russian.
