Markivka, Urban settlement in Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine.
Markivka is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine, situated in Luhansk Oblast within the Markivka Hromada. It sits in an open, gently rolling landscape and serves as the local center for the surrounding villages in the area.
Markivka became an administrative center in 1920 and held that role for several decades. In 2020, a broader territorial reorganization across Ukraine redefined its administrative status within the new hromada structure.
The 2001 census revealed that 93.3 percent of residents spoke Ukrainian as their primary language, while 6.2 percent primarily communicated in Russian.
The settlement is easy to walk through, with basic services found in the center of the locality. Since Markivka is located in Luhansk Oblast, it is worth checking current travel advisories before any visit to the area.
After the 2014 events in the Donbas region, Markivka remained under Ukrainian government control despite lying close to the front line at that time. This position makes it one of the easternmost places in the oblast that continued to be administered from Kyiv.
