Intercession Cathedral

The Intercession Cathedral is an Eastern Orthodox church in Izmail featuring symmetrical classical design with columns and detailed facades. Inside, the space displays traditional religious iconography and ecclesiastical artwork from the 19th century.

The cathedral was completed in 1821 under architect Avraam Melnikov's direction. Its construction occurred during a period when religious development was expanding across southern Ukraine.

Regular Eastern Orthodox services take place here, where visitors can observe religious artwork, frescoes, and icons that reflect the spiritual traditions of the region.

Visitors should observe appropriate dress codes when entering the cathedral. The building remains open year-round for both worship services and those interested in viewing the architecture.

The cathedral combines Greek and Roman architectural elements with local building techniques that Melnikov refined. This blend demonstrates how classical design principles were adapted to fit the conditions of southern Ukraine.
