Glendronach distillery, Whisky distillery in Forgue, Scotland

The Glendronach facility employs traditional copper stills and draws water from the Dronac burn within its grounds to produce Highland single malt whisky.

Founded in 1826 by James Allardes, the distillery became the second establishment to receive a legal production license under the Excise Act of 1823.

The name originates from Scottish Gaelic, where 'gleann dronach' translates to valley of the brambles, reflecting the local landscape and heritage.

The distillery opens Friday through Sunday from 10:30 to 16:30, offering guided tours with whisky tastings paired with handmade chocolate truffles.

Teachers and Sons Ltd expanded the production capacity from two to six stills in 1960, marking a significant shift in the distillery's output capabilities.

Historical sites of Aberdeen: castles, cathedrals and Scottish heritage

Aberdeen and its region feature a series of sites that testify to several centuries of Scottish history. The city contains religious buildings such as the 14th-century St. Machar Cathedral, cultural institutions like the neoclassical Music Hall from 1822, and the Maritime Museum, as well as green spaces including Duthie Park with its botanical greenhouses. The port, active since the 12th century, remains an important center for maritime industry. A 3.5-kilometer sandy beach borders the North Sea, while the Footdee district retains its 19th-century fishing houses.
