Glendronach distillery, Whisky distillery in Forgue, Scotland
Glendronach is a whisky distillery in Forgue, Aberdeenshire, that produces Highland single malt whisky. The facility uses traditional copper stills and sources water from the Dronac burn on its grounds.
The distillery was founded in 1826 and was among the first to receive a legal production license under alcohol regulations of that era. This early establishment shaped its long-standing reputation.
The name comes from Scottish Gaelic, meaning 'valley of the brambles' after the vegetation that once covered the surrounding landscape. This heritage remains reflected in how locals and visitors speak about the place today.
The distillery opens Friday through Sunday from 10:30 to 16:30 and offers guided tours with whisky tastings. Visitors should wear warm clothing since production areas are kept cool.
In the 1960s the production capacity nearly doubled when new stills were installed at the facility. This expansion allowed the distillery to significantly increase its output.
