Frendraught House, Category A listed mansion in Forgue, Huntly, Scotland
Frendraught House is a listed mansion near Forgue in Aberdeenshire with harled walls and a multi-windowed facade typical of Scottish country estates. The building displays ashlar stonework on its central section, showing traditional construction methods from its era.
The estate was connected to an earlier fortified castle in the 17th century that experienced a significant incident. Cellars beneath the present house are the only remains of that earlier stronghold.
The 1630 fire at the original castle resulted in multiple deaths, inspiring a Scottish ballad documented in the Child Ballads collection.
The house sits in a rural setting and requires independent travel through Aberdeenshire's countryside to reach. Access for visitors is limited, so checking in advance about visiting arrangements is advisable.
Two small chamfered windows in the west gable are remnants from a much older phase of the settlement. These tiny openings offer a glimpse into building techniques from earlier centuries.
