Nuckolls County, Administrative county in southeastern Nebraska, United States
Nuckolls County encompasses 576 square miles of territory with the Republican River flowing through its southwestern section near the Kansas border.
The county formation occurred in 1860, receiving its name from brothers Lafayette and Stephen Friel Nuckolls before official organization in 1871.
The county maintains strong agricultural traditions with ninety-two percent of its land dedicated to farming, producing corn, soybeans, and supporting livestock operations.
The county seat of Nelson provides governmental services, while Superior, with 1,825 residents, functions as the largest municipality in the region.
The first county election took place under an elm tree near Oak in 1871, with all administrative operations conducted from surveyor Montgomery's residence.
