Stratford

Stratford sits at the mouth of the Housatonic River, with beaches, parks, and neighborhoods spreading along Long Island Sound. The waterfront location provides natural attractions and recreational spaces throughout the community.

The settlement was founded in 1639 as a Puritan community and named after Stratford-upon-Avon in England in 1643. The town later became a major aerospace manufacturing center in the 20th century.

The National Helicopter Museum displays aviation history through exhibits, while Boothe Memorial Park contains buildings from different historical periods. Both places show how the town values its industrial and architectural heritage.

A Metro-North Railroad station connects to New York City regularly, making day trips convenient. Sikorsky Memorial Airport also serves the area for additional transportation options.

Sikorsky Aircraft founded its first American commercial helicopter production here in 1939. The facility made the region known internationally for aerospace innovation.
