Mosque Maryam is an Islamic worship site at 7351 South Stony Island Avenue housed in a limestone building with separate prayer spaces. The complex includes a large meeting hall and adjacent areas for daily religious gatherings.
Greek Orthodox believers built the structure between 1948 and 1952 as a church for their growing community. The Nation of Islam acquired the building in 1972 and converted it into their headquarters.
Friday prayers draw community members who gather in the main meeting hall each week. Religious education programs run throughout the week for children and adults.
The complex sits near the Muhammad University of Islam in the South Shore neighborhood. Parking is available for visitors attending daily prayers.
