The Chesapeake Bay Bridge–Tunnel is a 23-mile bridge-tunnel crossing at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.
Opened in 1964, it was named one of the 'Seven Engineering Wonders of the Modern World'.
It's an important transport link that connects the Delmarva Peninsula with metropolitan Hampton Roads.
The bridge-tunnel saves motorists 95 miles and 1.5 hours on a trip between Virginia Beach/Norfolk and points north of Wilmington, Delaware.
It's one of only ten bridge–tunnel systems in the world.
