Southbridge, Industrial city in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States

Located at 149 meters above sea level, Southbridge extends across 20.9 square miles of land with the Quinebaug River flowing through its territory.

The settlement, established in 1730 by European colonists, developed from territories of Sturbridge, Charlton, and Dudley near the Connecticut border.

The Quinebaug Valley Council for the Arts and Humanities maintains local artistic traditions through exhibitions and performances at the Gateway Players Theatre.

The Jacob Edwards Library, part of the Central Massachusetts Regional Library System, provides educational resources and services to the community.

The American Optical Company transformed Southbridge into a global center for ophthalmic products, now commemorated in the Optical Heritage Museum.
