Buffalo Central Terminal, Art Deco railway station in Broadway-Fillmore district, Buffalo, United States.
Buffalo Central Terminal is a 17-story railway station located in the Broadway-Fillmore district that rises prominently above the street. The building features an octagonal tower with a lengthy concourse decorated by Roman arched windows and ornamental tile ceilings that showcase detailed craftsmanship.
The terminal opened in 1929 as a major railroad hub, representing a significant moment in the city's transportation development. In the following decades, it played a central role in the lives of thousands of travelers until train travel gradually declined.
The station served as a gathering place where travelers met before their journeys, creating memories in its grand halls. The bronze bison statue inside became a tradition for soldiers departing on military service, who touched it for good luck.
The building is accessible to visitors through organized tours and public events held throughout the year. It is best to check ahead about access times, as the building's availability varies depending on ongoing restoration work and scheduled programming.
The ticketing area contained 18 geometrically patterned windows that created a striking visual display. A spiral chute system ran directly from the upper floors to baggage handling areas below, allowing efficient movement of luggage through the building.
