The Gates Vascular Institute features 476,000 square feet of medical space across 10 floors, integrating clinical care facilities with research laboratories in Buffalo.
Inaugurated in May 2012, this medical complex required an investment of 290 million dollars and received the 2013 AIA Healthcare Design Award.
The institute introduces a new medical facility concept by combining patient care areas with research spaces through a central collaborative core between departments.
The building contains 62 private patient rooms, 53 emergency department spaces, 28 operating rooms, and 17 interventional laboratories for vascular treatments.
The Universal Grid design incorporates 31-foot structural modules with 18-foot floor heights, allowing future modifications without disrupting core infrastructure systems.
