Delaware Avenue Historic District
Delaware Avenue Historic District, Historic residential district in Buffalo, United States.
The Delaware Avenue Historic District is a residential area with large mansions located along the west side of Delaware Avenue between North Street and Bryant Street. The buildings display Renaissance Revival and Gothic Revival styles designed by prominent architects between 1890 and 1915.
The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, marking a period when Buffalo had many wealthy residents. The mansions were built during a time of great economic prosperity when industrial leaders lived in the city.
The street displays mansions built by wealthy industrial leaders to showcase their status and success. Visitors can see how these houses reflect Buffalo's importance as a prosperous city during that era.
The district is accessible on foot and can be explored through a leisurely walk along the avenue. Several of the mansions now serve as community organizations, allowing visitors to see interiors and experience how these spaces function today.
The Williams-Butler and Williams-Pratt houses were both built in 1896 and showcase how industrial leaders chose their preferred architectural styles. These two neighboring homes reveal the business connections and personal relationships between the city's wealthy families.
