Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Dual suspension bridge in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, United States.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge consists of two parallel steel structures spanning 6.9 kilometers across the largest estuary in Maryland connecting its eastern and western shores.

The original span, completed in 1952, established a record as the longest continuous steel structure over water, replacing the previous ferry transportation system.

The official name William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge commemorates the Maryland governor who initiated the construction project in the late 1940s.

The bridge carries US Routes 50 and 301, providing a direct connection between the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area and Maryland's Eastern Shore destinations.

Since 1975, an annual 10-kilometer running event takes place across the bridge, allowing participants to cross the entire Chesapeake Bay on foot.
