Marcus Garvey Park, Urban park in Mount Morris neighborhood, Manhattan, US.
Marcus Garvey Park is an urban green space in Harlem with different areas for sports and recreation. It features tennis courts, baseball fields, children's playgrounds, and an amphitheater for events.
The site was founded in 1840 as Mount Morris Park and renamed in 1973 to honor an important civil rights activist. This change recognized his work for the rights of Black Americans.
The park hosted major cultural events that shaped community life in the neighborhood. Today, residents gather here for concerts and festivals that continue this tradition of public celebration.
The park is open year-round and offers various sports facilities and a swimming pool for visitors. Paths run through the grounds and are well marked, making navigation straightforward.
A cast-iron fire watchtower from 1857 stands in the park and is the last of its kind remaining in New York City. The tower is a reminder of an earlier era of firefighting before modern technology took over.
