Graham Court, Renaissance Revival apartment building in Harlem, US

Graham Court is an eight-story apartment building that fills an entire block between West 116th and 117th Streets. The facade combines a limestone base with tan brick upper floors, following Renaissance Revival style principles.

William Waldorf Astor commissioned this residential complex in 1899, with construction completed in 1901. The wealthy industrialist invested significant resources into this prestigious housing project for the upper class.

The building became a symbol of Harlem's changing neighborhoods after Black tenants moved in during 1928. It shows how the city's housing patterns shifted as new groups of people arrived and made their homes here.

The building is located at 1921 Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard and houses 93 apartments. The subway stations for lines 2, 3, B, and C are directly accessible from this location.

The interior courtyard was originally filled with ornamental plants and provided natural ventilation to apartments through a design similar to Italian palaces. This layout allowed light and air to reach even the lower-floor units.
