Henry House

The Henry House is a two-story structure built from wood and fieldstone, showing rural construction methods from the early 1800s. It contains several rooms with fireplaces and windows, spaces that families used for crafts and farm work.

The house was built in 1812 and stood in the center of fighting during the American Civil War at the First Battle of Manassas. It survived and remains on the battlefield, keeping the memory of those events alive.

The rooms show how rural families lived and worked during the early 1800s, with spaces arranged for daily farm life. The layout and details reflect the practical needs that people had in that era.

The house sits within Manassas National Battlefield Park and is reached on foot from the visitor center. Wear good shoes, as the path crosses uneven ground and the site is open to the elements.

During the fighting, the house itself became a target and sustained damage from bullets and artillery. These marks remain visible on the walls, telling the story of what it meant to stand in the path of battle.
