Lynbrook, Railroad village in Nassau County, US
Lynbrook is a village on the South Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, spanning roughly 2 square miles (5 square kilometers). It sits between the communities of Malverne, Valley Stream, and Rockville Centre.
The settlement was originally called Rechquaakie and later renamed Parson's Corners before becoming Lynbrook in 1894. The current name came from reversing Brooklyn's syllables, reflecting the community's creative connection to the neighboring borough.
The community maintains close ties through its volunteer firefighting tradition, with local fire companies serving as gathering places for residents. These organizations remain central to neighborhood life and civic engagement today.
The Long Island Rail Road station on Sunrise Highway offers direct connections to New York City's boroughs for commuters and visitors. Multiple Nassau Inter-County Express bus routes also serve the area for local travel and getting around the region.
Three residential homes in the community earned listings on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, located on Rocklyn Avenue, Ocean Avenue, and Grove Street. These houses represent preserved examples of the area's residential architecture from earlier eras.
