Tryon, Mountain resort town in Polk County, North Carolina, United States.
Tryon is a town in Polk County in western North Carolina. It sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is framed by wooded hills.
The railroad reached this area in 1877 and connected the mountain region with southern cities. In the early 20th century, families from the north began building winter homes here.
The place takes its name from William Tryon, a British colonial governor. Riders still use the trails through the surrounding hills, and many residents maintain their connection to equestrian life.
The center can be crossed in a few minutes on foot, with shops and cafés along the main street. Hiking trails lead from the roadside directly into the woods.
Nina Simone grew up in this area and gave her first public performances in a local church. Her childhood home stood near the current town center and is now part of the local memory.
