West Baden Springs Hotel, Historic hotel in West Baden Springs, Indiana, US
The West Baden Springs Hotel is a building in West Baden Springs, Indiana, with six circular floors and a freestanding dome measuring 200 feet (61 meters) across. The interior includes a large central atrium space with balconies at each level looking down on the open area below.
The hotel building was completed in 1902 by a local entrepreneur and served as a retreat for wealthy guests drawn to the thermal springs. After decades of decline, the structure underwent full renovation in the early 2000s and reopened in 2007.
The building takes its name from nearby mineral springs that have drawn visitors for more than a century. The circular arrangement of rooms follows the arc of the great dome and creates equal access to shared areas.
Check-in takes place in the main lobby beneath the dome, and guests can explore the sprawling property with the hotel shuttle. Rooms are spread across several levels, and elevators connect the different floors to public areas.
The dome was the largest freestanding dome in the world when completed and held that record for several years. The building served at one time as a Jesuit college before being converted back into a hotel.
